Stone County Schools
Stone County Schools find communication answers with SouthernLINC Wireless. Years ago, Mike
Parker resigned himself to the fact that anything said over a radio would be broadcast throughout
his Stone County Schools district. Any message, regardless of how trivial or sensitive, was out
there for anyone with a radio to hear. Even worse, anyone in town with a police scanner would be
able to pick up conversations as well. In 1996, the Transportation and Maintenance director and
his colleagues in the Wiggins, Mississippi-based school district looked to SouthernLINC Wireless
for a solution and haven't looked back since.
I love the PrivateLINC service we now get with
SouthernLINC Wireless. There's no need for the entire district to hear when we have
a bus that needs repair.

Using iDEN technology from Motorola, SouthernLINC Wireless combines Instant LINCŪ two-way radio,
phone service, text messaging and wireless data access in one hand-held device. Before SouthernLINC
Wireless, the school district - with a student population of 2,700 - used standard two-way radios
that were bulky and unreliable.
"Those old ones were just about useless. You didn't know when they would work and it was a hassle
to deal with," Parker said. "With SouthernLINC Wireless, the radios get used more because they're
reliable and they're very convenient. SouthernLINC Wireless's system works 10 times better than
anything we've ever had before."
Stone County school employees now rely on 51 SouthernLINC Wireless phones to communicate daily.
Among those connected on the SouthernLINC Wireless network are the grounds, transportation and
maintenance crews, the superintendent, principals and assistant principals in all of the schools,
cafeteria managers and the special education department. The phones keep everyone connected 24
hours a day, 7 days a week with the push of a button.
Along with the Stone County School District, several members of the local sheriff and
fire department, as well as the county roads department use SouthernLINC Wireless as a
communications tool. Because they are on the same system, Parker can contact just about
anyone he needs within seconds.
"If I'm driving through the county and see a problem with a road or bridge, I can get
someone on the radio instantly and we can try and get the problem fixed before the
buses even leave the schools," he said.
