SouthernLINC Wireless Supports “Push to End Hunger” for
Bay Area Food Bank During Hunger Action Month


Regional wireless carrier calls for canned goods in Mobile, Ala., on September 25

WHO:

SouthernLINC Wireless, a Southern Company (NYSE: SO), is giving back to the Mobile, Ala., community by participating in the Bay Area Food Bank’s “30 Ways in 30 Days!” campaign this month.

Covering the major metro and rural areas of Alabama, Georgia, southeast Mississippi and northwest Florida, SouthernLINC Wireless is a regional wireless carrier that bundles multiple communication options, including Push To Talk two-way radio, cellular service, text messaging, wireless Internet access and wireless data, into one phone.

WHAT:

Working through member organizations and special programs, the Bay Area Food Bank in Theodore, Ala., provides nutritious food to people who are hungry as a result of personal crisis or disaster. The Food Bank’s mission is also to educate the public regarding domestic hunger, proper nutrition and related issues.

During September, the Bay Area Food Bank is raising awareness of Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month by promoting food drives, concerts and volunteer outings as part of their “30 Ways in 30 Days!” initiative. The Food Bank is suggesting a different action (“30 Ways”) that can be taken to help fight domestic hunger for each day in September (“30 Days”). Donating canned and other non-perishable food items at the Mobile, Ala., SouthernLINC Wireless store is the “way” for Sept. 25, 2008. Community members who do so will receive a complimentary thank you gift.

DETAILS:

Most needed foods include canned meats, canned vegetables, canned or dried beans, canned fruits, canned and boxed meals, peanut butter, pasta, rice, cereal and 100 percent fruit juice. To ensure safety, the Food Bank cannot use rusty or unlabeled cans, perishable items, expired goods, homemade items, non-commercial canned or packaged items, alcoholic beverages, mixes or soda, or open or used items.
