City of Dothan Selects SouthernLINC Wireless as Official Communications Partner

New partnership enables city officials to easily and efficiently communicate with multiple state and local agencies

ATLANTA – February 20, 2007 – SouthernLINC Wireless®, a Southern Company (NYSE: SO), today announced that it has been selected as the official communications partner for the City of Dothan, Ala. Dothan’s public service departments, specifically police, fire and utilities, will depend on SouthernLINC Wireless to keep them connected with reliable service and extensive coverage in the Dothan area.

“One of the greatest benefits of working with SouthernLINC Wireless is interoperability – the ability to reliably communicate with other local and state agencies that also depend on the SouthernLINC Wireless system,” said Tim Stewart, information technology manager with the City of Dothan. “Roughly 95 percent of other municipalities in and around Houston County use SouthernLINC Wireless, so being able to connect with them at the touch of button makes our jobs easier.”

City of Dothan officials are already using SouthernLINC Wireless devices. Police officers are primarily relying on the highly durable Motorola i325, while fire safety officials are using the intrinsically safe model i325IS. Personnel from the electric and water utilities utilize the i560 handset with integrated Assisted Global Positioning System (AGPS). AGPS, coupled with Java™ location-based applications, helps city officials track their mobile workforce, enabling more efficient planning for future on-site visits.

“Dothan’s public officials needed a wireless communications system that offers both advanced features and extensive coverage in rural and metro areas, so SouthernLINC Wireless is a natural fit,” said Bob Dawson, president and CEO of SouthernLINC Wireless. “SouthernLINC Wireless has deep experience serving public sector and government agencies in Alabama. In fact, it was founded to support the needs of Southern Company’s utility subsidiaries, so ensuring reliability in both metropolitan and rural areas has always been essential.”

“SouthernLINC Wireless’ roots in the Southeast are well established,” added Stewart. “There are other carriers we could have considered, but SouthernLINC Wireless is committed to the Southeast the way no other carrier is.”
