SouthernLINC Wireless Kicks Off
High School Football in Alabama, Georgia and Florida


Regional wireless carrier sponsors football broadcasts and award program

ATLANTA – Sept. 10, 2008 – SouthernLINC Wireless, a Southern Company (NYSE: SO), suits up this fall in support of high school football in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The company is sponsoring giveaways, an award program and radio coverage of high school games in Birmingham, Ala., Clanton, Ala., Dothan, Ala., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Pensacola Beach, Fla., Mobile, Ala., Montgomery, Ala., Tuscaloosa, Ala., Vidalia, Ga., and surrounding areas.

“When it’s fall in the South, it’s all about football, and high school football is a proud regional tradition SouthernLINC Wireless is pleased to champion,” said Julie Pigott, vice president of marketing and customer support for SouthernLINC Wireless. “Our involvement with high school football in Alabama, Georgia and Florida is another example of our commitment to the region we serve.”

Members of the community can join SouthernLINC Wireless in cheering on their favorite teams by listening to and participating in the following broadcasts and programs:

  • Birmingham, Ala.: Followers of Birmingham area high school football can tune in to WJOX-FM for the “Friday Night Scoreboard” to hear real-time game updates, insights and remarks from hosts Jim Dunaway and Ryan Brown. Listeners can also call the station to share their opinions about the games. The show airs from 8 to 11 p.m. every week during the season. Lucky fans can also pick up a SouthernLINC Wireless miniature football at the company’s Pelham, Ala., retail store or catch one at Birmingham area games.

  • Clanton, Ala.: Supporters of Chilton, Thompson, Mapleville, Jemison and Shelby County high schools can turn their radio dial to 97.7 The Peach (WHPH-FM) for the “SouthernLINC Wireless Game of the Week” to hear live game play-by-plays and commentary. During this program, the disc jockey will also announce the SouthernLINC Wireless Student Athlete of the Week, a senior who performs well on the field and in the classroom. SouthernLINC Wireless will make a donation on behalf of each award winner to his or her school.

  • Dothan, Ala.: On Tuesdays from 6 until 7 p.m., gridiron aficionados from Dothan and Northview high schools, Houston Academy and Providence Christian School can go to T.G.I. Friday’s® to watch the coaches discuss the week’s games and rivalries on WOOF-AM’s “Tuesday Night Lights” broadcast program sponsored by SouthernLINC Wireless.
  • Fort Walton Beach, Fla.: Beginning Sept. 5, supporters of Fort Walton Beach area high school football can tune in to WRKN-FM for the “SouthernLINC Wireless Game of the Week” to hear real-time game updates and comments from the show’s host, John Lavin.

  • Pensacola Beach, Fla.: Pensacola area high school football enthusiasts can hear Bill Logins report on all the tackles, passes and touchdowns on WCOA-AM’s broadcast of the “SouthernLINC Wireless Game of the Week.”

  • Mobile, Ala.: McGill-Toolen Catholic, Murphy, Davidson, Daphne, Theodore, Alma Bryant and Williamson high schools; UMS-Wright Preparatory School; and St. Paul’s Episcopal School backers can listen to live game action of the rivalry of the week on WNSP-FM.

  • Montgomery, Ala.: Montgomery area high school pigskin fanatics can tune in to Bama Country 98.9 (WBAM-FM) to hear the “SouthernLINC Wireless Football Scoreboard Show” from 9 until 11 p.m. every Friday during the season. On the show, host Jay Scott will give the latest scores and take calls from listeners throughout central Alabama that are certain to rouse team rivalries. The station will also send a Bama Country disc jockey to a different school each week prior to kick off to meet and greet those in attendance. A select number of fans can catch a SouthernLINC Wireless miniature football at either the company’s Montgomery, Ala., retail store or at the featured games.   • Tuscaloosa, Ala.: Fans of Holt, Central, Northridge, Paul W. Bryant, Hillcrest, Tuscaloosa County and Northside high schools; Holy Spirit Catholic Regional School; and American Christian Academy can listen to the “SouthernLINC Wireless Game of the Week” on WRTR-FM and WACT-AM. Be sure to check out the Football Booster Club’s tent sponsored by SouthernLINC Wireless at the Tuscaloosa County High School home games.

  • Vidalia, Ga.: Followers of Robert Toombs Christian Academy and Vidalia and Toombs County high schools can hear all the Friday night action on WYUM-FM, WVOP-AM and WTCQ-FM.

Football is the most popular high school sport for boys with more than one million boys playing 11-player football and another 26,000 involved in six-, eight- and nine-player football, according to the 2006-07 National Federation of State High School Athletics Participation Survey. In addition to boys, more than 1,000 girls played high school football during the 2006-2007 season.
